JMJ VOCATION STATEMENT
As a Catholic homeschool support group, we feel it is our vocation to help families who are called to homeschool their children in a Catholic environment fulfill their call. By keeping our focus on supporting the primary care giver in the family, usually the mother, we ensure that she will be able to give the best of herself to her family. Sometimes this support will take the form of a prayer group, to help her grow in her faith, and sometimes it will come in the form of a mom’s night out to share healthy quick recipes for busy days.
WE ARE NOT A CO-OP. We do not require parents to teach classes or volunteer for events, but encourage them to do so, when they feel God is calling them to share their time and talents. When our group comes together, we want the mothers to feel energized by the fellowship of the other mothers, and feel encouraged to continue on their chosen path, not to feel stressed and overwhelmed with classes and commitments they would rather not be doing.
We all have different styles of homeschooling, and different academic needs, but we have one goal in common: to raise Catholic children, who will know and defend their faith and be a positive influence in their community. Giving our children the opportunity to make strong bonds and friendships with other Catholic children is one of the ways we achieve this goal.
Although JMJ offers some classes, it is not the main focus of our group, and we do so, only to help the parents with classes that are more difficult to teach at home. By keeping our classes limited to the morning hours (except high school level), we ensure that we have a healthy balance of academics and fellowship for the children. We will continue to try to provide classes that will help most of the families in the group within our constraints of space, time and money.
We will remain faithful to the prompting of the Holy Spirit as we continue to maintain a balance of academics and social activities, along with special events to encourage and support the mothers of our group as they answer their call to homeschool their children.
